Parents Corner...

Many successful musicians regard their parents' influence and inspiration as the most important in sparking their own interest in serious music. Whether or not your child makes a career of music, your efforts in bringing the world of music to your child will make his or her life fuller and happier.

A few basic tips...

#1
Become Involved With Your Child's Piano Training.

#2
Encourage Your Child As Much As Possible. Be sure to praise effort as well as accomplishment. Do not critize your child for making mistakes or for not learning as fast as another child you know. Praise and rewards are the key to motivation. If your child seems to be uncooperative it may just need more motivation and encouragement.

#3
Try to express interest in what your child is doing, even if you are getting tired of hearing "Chopsticks". Encourage your child in every way possible. Avoid criticism and focus on praise for what your child does right. Even so-called "constructive criticism" can be very demotivating.

#4
Provide As Much Cultural Enrichment As Possible. Bring music into your child's life. Have music CDs around and listen to them. Make music fun whenever you can.
